KEY PROFILE:
Dr. Binay Kumar Chakraborty, a Fisheries Scientist and Consultant has played an important key role as a researcher and extension worker in the field of Aquaculture and fisheries management of Bangladesh especially in the coastal aquaculture field of mud crab and mud eel, Shrimp, and Sea bass, coastal fisheries livelihood, Climate resilient sustainable management and conservation of wetland resources and biodiversity of wetlands. He is a Supervisor/Co-supervisor of Bangladesh Agricultural University who has guided so many students and worked as an examiner of PhD students abroad. He has been working as a Visiting Professor in the Shobhit Institute of Engineering & Technology, Meerut, UP, India.
In Culture of Cuchia and Crab in the selected area of Bangladesh and research project, he has discovered and developed the technologies on a. Mud crab Juvenile culture,
b.Crab fattening of Pen culture
c. Cage culture of crab
d. Survey on stock assessment of mud crab with in Bangladesh
e. Established a crab hatchery in Cox’s Bazar and experience on hatchery management and f. Fisher’s Livelihood development.
He has discovered control natural breeding of eel, nursery and culture management of eel.
In CREL project he directly participated in climate resilient sustainable management and conservation of wetland resources and biodiversity in selected wetlands and strengthening planning and implementation capacity of co-management bodies in high biodiversity and highly climate-vulnerable areas. The objective of CREL is to increase the capacity (or resiliency) of ecosystems and livelihoods to withstand selected key impact of climate change, in a long-term sustainable manner. To accomplish this, CREL was increased resilience to climate change through improved resource planning and livelihoods diversification, rural livelihood strategies, economic growth, and leveraging of multi-sector partnerships targeting marginalized groups. The project was delivered financial literacy and enterprise training through local organizations, and support private sector linkages with resource user groups to add value, negotiate fair market prices, and promote savings. CREL was increased beneficiary access to AIG and microfinance, and build capacity of targeted populations to manage social and financial assets. The result was viable livelihoods and enterprises that increase incomes, sustain resources and productivity, and improve resiliency, especially among marginal and vulnerable populations.
In Fisheries Diploma course Implementation Project, he has firstly successfully established the mid-level fisheries manpower Fisheries Diploma Institution in Chandpur, Bangladesh and introduced course curriculums with Bangladesh Technical Education Board under the Project “Fisheries Diploma course Implementation Project”. About 08 Semester including theoretical and practical is included for four years course. Course-curriculum of Fisheries Diploma course Is prepared headed by him. He has an experience as an examiner and Chairman of the question moderation committee of the Technical Education Board, Bangladesh.
He acts as a Supervisor/Co-supervisor of Bangladesh Agricultural University to guide master’s level students and acts as a PhD thesis examiner of different universities and acts also external of PhD viva examination.
He has an expertise on breeding, nursery and culture of major carp and minor carp, and cat fishes; Expertise on Crabs, Macrobrachium rosenbergii and Penaeus monodon (Tigher prawn) culture, and other coastal and sea fisheries management; Invent the technology of induction of spawning in spiny Tara baim, Macrognathus aral and Guchi, Macrognathus pancalus, in Bangladesh; he has an expertise on floodplain management and aquatic biodiversity; feed, food security and livelihoods. He has a vast knowledge on project design, implementation and execution and participatory action research. He has also good management, communication, analytical and reporting skills and knowledge on extension, motivation and rehabilitation of fishers of coastal area and other target disaster peoples. He has also capacity to communicate & build up awareness relation with GO, NGO, & alit person of the society.
He has been acting as a reviewer more than 23 different international journals and he is also Editorial Board member of International Journal of Oceanography & Aquaculture, Asian Biological Research Foundation (ABRF) and International journal of Advanced Academic study. He is also Life Member of the15 national and international Societies/organizations.
About 15 research and academic books, 07 Book Chapters, more than 80 abstracts and 74 scientific papers and other 38 articles are published by national and international publishers and organizations. He has attended more than 92 International national seminars of different
countries of Europe, Middle east, South east Asia and own countries.
